The Springs are linear, it's completely fine to cut coils off. It will not effect the spring rate. 1/2" of spring height cut is equal to 1" lowered on the body. Just be sure to use a Cutoff wheel and not a torch to not effect the spring. You probably know this but you mentioned a different way.

I have read comments about how this isn't the way to build a car . After spending most of my life in the auto industry I have something to say . In my experience at least over half of the shiny " I wish I had that car " are garbage . There are so many p.o.s. muscle cars out there it is scary . What Dan is building is a solid foundation to build a car you can be proud of . If you think this is a bad way to go , lets see your way of building a car a lot of people wouldn't attempt . Nice job. Without the special tool for the window crank. cut a piece of coat hanger and bend the end about 1/8 inch at the end and stick it in the backside of the crank and hook the clip and pull it out.
